AI and I

For clarity, the only AI tools that I regularly use in my work are spot removal from film scans (using a clone tool), and that's almost it. Very occasionally, in an image intended to be decorative rather than documentary, I have been known to remove a pole, or a distant figure. But this is an extremely rare (sub-1%) occurrence, and is absent from all of my 'serious' documentary output. (I'm not sure what people have against street lights and bins, to be honest.).

I do occasionally crop images, and I adjust tones/levels/contrast - but always using manual sliders.

Here's an image from the mid-1970s- location long forgotten - that was scanned some 40 years later, having been stored in a succession of damp locations. The spider fungus, most visible in the shadows, is an unintentional confirmation of the image's authenticity.

I do not permit my images being used without my permission - and never want them to be 'scraped' for use in AI image generators.
